Video Answers. Episode 9.

“How much does it cost to make a video?”  In Video Answers Episode 9, we address the question of cost with video production and put it in perspective.

How much does it cost… to make a video?

So you want to know, “How much does it cost to make a video?”
When I’m asked that question, I usually ask, “How much does it cost to build a house?”
Now before you think I’m ignoring the question or I’m just being a smart aleck, what I’m really trying to do is to put the question in perspective and give some context.

The cost of a new home depends on details like:

  • Blueprints
  • Type of construction
  • Location
  • Size of the home
  • How quickly it’s being built
  • How many rooms
  • Amenities

So what does it cost to build a house? It depends on you and the details of the house.

The same is true when determining the cost of a video.

The cost of a video depends on details like:

  • The Creative Brief
  • The Script
  • Shoot locations
  • Length of the video
  • How quickly it’s being produced
  • Size of crew
  • Number of shoot days

So… What does it cost to make a video?

The truth is, you can buy a video on Craigslist for $250 or you can spend $250,000. So, “What does it cost to make a video?” It depends on you and the details of what you want.

If you think I’m avoiding the question, Google “what does it cost to make a video?” and you’ll see exactly what I mean.

Without knowing the details of your video, I’d have to be a mystic to answer the question.

The only way to figure out the cost of a video is to determine the details of your video. For us determining those details, begins with a conversation and a Creative Brief.
Sandy Weill, former CEO and chairman of Citigroup put it this way, “Details create the big picture.” That couldn’t be more true when it comes to the cost of your video.
