There’s a lot of work leading up to a video shoot. When it’s your project, all you want is for your video to be successful.
In episode 15 of Video Answers, we answer the question, “Can we fix it in post?” and dispel the associated myths and how this notion can may impact your video. This episode helps you be aware and be prepared to ask the right questions.

If you’re ever on a video shoot and you hear someone say, “Don’t worry about it. We can fix it in post,“ you should be afraid. Very afraid.

Red flag

“We can fix it in post” is code for “there’s a problem.” That problem can refer to:

  • audio
  • lighting
  • camera
  • talent
  • location
  • directing

When you hear, “We can fix it in post,” what you’re really hearing is “I wasn’t prepared for this shoot.”
Translation: “I skimped on the planning/pre-production stage.”
And that’s not a good thing to hear when you want your project to be successful. Proper planning is key.

The truth

The truth is you can’t always fix it in post. Preparation and planning can eliminate many of the problems, especially if it’s your first shoot.

The answer

So what’s the answer?
The answer is always easier than the problem. With proper planning, the shoot can be done right the first time so no one will have to “fix it in post.”
